O deputado Ron Paul, um dos quatro candidatos republicanos ainda na disputa pela indicação, apresentou neste sábado (2), sua opção para os combustíveis alternativos: etanol de cânhamo, fibra da planta. O cultivo do cânhamo é proibido nos Estados Unidos (e no Brasil também). De acordo com Paul, que é mais identificado com a causa libertária do que com a conservadora, produzir esse tipo de etanol “seria muito mais fácil e limpo” do que insistir no derivado do milho, como hoje. Em entrevista à MTV americana, o congressista do Texas afirmou que “o governo deve sair do caminho”, deixar de lado as restrições neste campo e permitir que o mercado faça sua parte.
